This dance programme begins in a monochrome B&W, with ballerina’s practising formal moves, closely watched by the instructor. A phone ring takes him out of the room, prompting the character portrayed by Tina Cross to beckon the others to abandon their rigid routines and dance in a more carefree way. Simultaneously the scene turns to colour and pop music hits the soundtrack with Tina singing. The scene now looks more like a take off of ‘Fame’ with the colourful leotards & tights on the dancers echoing the aerobics fads of the time. The song ends and the dancers hurry back to their plié positions at the barre, just as Jon Trimmer (instructor) returns to the scene, and it returns to B&W. And so on...
Gene Kelly, famous for ‘Singing in the rain’, is the narrator between scenes and segues the ballet/’Fame’ scene to a ‘celebration of the hunt’ ancient dance ritual.
