This week: Revival of the Moriori.
In 1988 Maui Solomon returned to Rēkohu, the Chatham Island to unveil a statue of his grandfather Tommy Solomon, the last of the full blooded Moriori. Maui’s journey was act intended to encourage recognition of the Moriori people as the indigenous culture of the Chathams and to reinstate the mana of an almost forgotten people.
