An Inkster travelogue; views of the journey up the West Coast - Coal Creek Falls, Point Elizabeth, Nine-mile Bluff, The Ten Mile Creek, Punakaiki Rocks, Bullock Creek, Gentle Annie Bluff, and a herd of cattle along the road. Mrs Inkster and Squire the family dog are seen in several shots.

The opening of the McTaggart Esplanade, known as Rapahoe Beach, or Seven Mile Beach, seven miles north of Runanga on the West Coast. Mayor McTaggart addresses the crowd which includes the voluntary workers and their wives. Workers with picks and shovels add the finishing touches and the first cars go over the new road.

The 1928 Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Greymouth features a parade down the main street with firemen, a brass band and soldiers marching; a carnival with side shows and children riding a merry-go-round; wood chopping competitions and poi and haka displays.
A steam engine goes through the crowds down the main street , a group of women push their prams on the footpath. The local newspaper staff are introduced.
