Intertirle: “Mayor Island is a beautiful isle about 5 miles off the coast of Tauranga and and abounds in deep sea game fish.” Coast of the island.
“After breakfast the fishing launches leave for a good days sport.” Two men on the bough odf the boat as it heads out to sea.
“To obtain bait is the first job and a spinner quickly catches the abundant Kahawhai.” Lines are baited with the Kawhai and cast to the ocean.
“A strike!” Dorsal fin of a large fish in the water. Man struggling with the fish.
“Over an hour later.” The fish lies dead in the water.
“After the swordfish is pulled aboard, the traditional blue flag is hoisted.”
Men eating lunch on back of boat. Fishing for snapper.
“Kingfishing for a change.” Broken and bloodied fish dragged onboard.
“This big kingfish is being used for bait to try for sharks at a greater depth.”
“Its done the trick. There’s something big on the line.”
“It’s a big thresher shark so up goes the white pennant.” Shark being weighed on land.
“A rare black marlin - this one weighs over 500 pounds.
“There seems to be some doubt about who deserves the credit for this fish.” The fishermen playfight beside the fish. Cutting off the swordfish’s nose. “The fish had an ulcerated duodenum and an immediate operation was considered necessary.”
Gutting the fish.
Rowing out to the fishing boat the next day. More fishing.
Another large fish is snared. “It’s a big tiger shark and after two hours on the line it is still necessary to shoot the brute.” The shark on the side of the boat. Two men winching the shark onto the scale. Man motioning how he caught the shark. Cutting nose of swordfish in the surf.
“The fishing party reluctanly heads back to the mainland.”
