New Zealand Mobile Broadcasting Unit announcer Vivian Spencer introduces a talk by Lieutenant Colonel W.S. McKinnon, Commanding Officer, 29th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment [on Mono Island]

He talks about the challenges of opposed landings under fire on the tropical jungle islands of Bougainville, Shortland and elsewhere in the Pacific [Treasury Islands]

He says to fulfil its role an anti-aircraft gun must have a clear view of the sky. This is very difficult in jungle conditions and much bush had to be cleared. The guns were in action when the Japanese aircraft arrived on the first day.

He says the unit is now in a position to improve anti-aircraft defences without much interference from the enemy, and hopes to equal the performance of their colleagues in the Middle East division. He ends by sending Christmas greetings home on behalf of his unit.
