Corporal T. G. Bain continues to talk about his experiences from leaving Egypt through to evacuation from Greece to Crete by the Navy.
When asked to describe his reaction to a massive bomb attack, he considered the worst time is from when the bombs are released until they hit the ground. During this time he murmured a prayer or two and the thought of the folks back home made him very sad. The cook house was blown to bits so they went to another camp to pick up some cigarettes.
He then describes the bombing and strafing, by enemy aircraft, of men and columns along the roads while trying to head back out of Athens. Before they were able to return to their camp they were ordered to evacuate with a load of soldiers, got lost and met a small group of
Māori survivors from a ship that had just been sunk in the Port of Piraeus.
