Sergeant W. H. Mandeno of Auckland talks about his experiences during
the period from leaving Corinth through to arrival in Crete and peace.
After the demolition Bob Wilson and Sergeant Mandeno were delayed in
Corinth arriving at their camp about 4.00pm. At day-break enemy air raids
commenced and for two hours nothing in the area moved from cover. The
noise of huge aircraft aroused the suspicion of parachutists.
The blue/grey of German uniforms were noticed among the grape vines and shots were exchanged. It was reported that an enemy tank was coming so they withdrew and became separated from the main party.
