Jordan, W. J. (William Joseph), 1879-1959

The New Zealand High Commissioner in London, Mr W J Jordan, had been
asked to give a talk while he was in Cairo about the attitude of the
people of Britain.

The people of Britain accept restrictions and regulations because they
apply to all alike. The slum districts have been bombed and the families
who have lost their homes have been accommodated in the homes of their
neighbours. The West End has also been bombed and in that respect there
is a common interest from all classes.

The Lord Mayors air raid fund, the Red Cross fund and similar funds are
quickly to hand helping those who have had their homes bombed. A spirit
of good will has been established between all people and many have given
their personal adornments and other possessions for sale by the Red
Cross.
