Dennerly, Peter
Sullivan, Jim, 1946-
New Zealand. Royal New Zealand Navy

Peter Dennelly, LT. Commander, Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), Officer in
charge of the Navy Museum at Devonport, in Auckland, is interviewed by
Jim Sullivan about the Naval Museum. The museum was established in 1974
and in its present form, 1982. It is attached to the Naval Base and so
therefore accessible to the public. It contains memorabilia such as
bells, uniforms and weapons and other related naval items. The funding
for the museum has a dual focus, from both the Defence Department and a
Trust Board. The museum is seen as giving New Zealanders a sense of
identity, of what has gone on in the past and the development of where
we are going in the future. There are plans for upgrading the museum.
