Beattie, Gerald, approximately 1891-1994, Interviewee
Lloyd Davies, Alison, Interviewer

100 year old Gerald Beattie is interviewed by Alison Lloyd Davies.
He talks about his childhood in Gore and his mother losing four younger children to diphtheria, his education and his interest in astronomy and meteorology.
He briefly touches on his experiences during World War I, describing how he and the man next to him were wounded by a shell, which saw him returned to New Zealand in January 1919.
During his 37 years at Rangiora High School he was responsible for several innovations including a school farm, a school radio station and weather monitoring station, as well as establishing a nursery school. He was active in the Rotary Club and was the official meteorological recorder for Rangiora until his 100th birthday.
