This afternoon the long-awaited and controversial report into the fatal Ansett Dash 8 crash two years ago was finally released. Four of the 21 people on board died when the plane crashed in heavy fog while approaching Palmerston North airport. The Transport Accident Investigation Commission report places most of the blame squarely on the two pilots, while contributing factors are attributed to Ansett and the Civil Aviation Authority. A whale which stranded on an Auckland West Coast beach this afternoon has died. At one stage a confrontation appeared to be brewing between Project Jonah volunteers who tried to save the giant beast - and people wanting to take its jawbone and teeth. In about 12 hours time a car will land on Mars. It'll then rove around the Mars countryside collecting information which will be sent back to its driver - a man sitting 191 million kilometres away at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
