Side 1.
Part 1. Theme music intro. The last of 1957. Harewood Airport -
City Councillor A.R. Guthrie explains how the third terminal made of permanent materials, selected with colour and contemporary design in mind, is due for completion by the end of the year.
The first of three Viscount turbo prop planes will be operating next month, with the ability to transport 60 passengers to Auckland in less than two hours and to Wellington in less than one hour. High standards will be maintained by a newly-appointed Airport Manager, responsible for efficient services and required to study the needs of the aircraft industry.
Further housing projects will be prevented from being built near to the airport to avoid clash with noise pollution from the increase in jet planes. Harewood is now established as an international airport and entering the jet age. It is considered the front door to the Province of Canterbury.
The back door to the Province could then be considered the Port of Lyttelton. The Engineer in Chief of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, Mr. J.A. Cashin talks about plans for the extensions to the port. Established in 1868 the Port of Lyttelton today has far out grown its needs, hence the reclamation of 40 acres to accommodate three large vessels, harbour sheds and provide both road and rail access making the port the foremost mechanised port in the Dominion. Works are estimated to be completed by 1963.
The Chairman of the Tunnel Road Authority, Mr. W.S. McGibbon talks about the dream of building a tunnel to create a direct route from Christchurch to Lyttelton by road.

A further programme of anticpated entertainment is described by the Chairman of the Committee of the Canterbury Repertory Society, Mr. Bill Truman and the District Manager of the NZBS in Christchurch, Mr. J.F. [Sketton] describes the effect from the amalgamation of three local stations and the highlight of 1958 being the Dominion tour by the Queen Mother.
