Side 1. Part 1: Māori basketball tournament - Ceremony and speeches welcoming the North Island Māori Women's Basketball team to Rāpaki Marae near Christchurch. Broadcaster Airini Grenell introduces a series of recordings from Rāpaki, including the kāranga. Mr [Frederick] Briggs, who is both the Mayor of Lyttelton, a Basketball Association representative and a member of the Rāpaki whānau, speaks welcoming the team from the North Island. The visitors reply in te reo Māori, followed by a haka. A waiata follows. After the hongi, the visitors performed several action songs.
Side 2. Part 2: Arrival of the Vickers Valiant bombers at Harewood yesterday. Commentary by an unidentified male broadcaster from the roof of the airport cafeteria as two jets fly past overhead. [RAF?] Flying Officer John Paget [?] a member of the crew of the Hastings aircraft which arrived last night gives a description of the Vickers Valiant. He declines to talk about its speed as these details are still on 'the secret list' and cannot be revealed.
Flight Lieutenant Mather, captain of the second Vickers Valiant aircraft is also interviewed. He flew from Adelaide, Australia this morning and describes their route from Britain to New Zealand. The trip has been to a goodwill tour to coincide with Air Force Week in Australia and New Zealand.
