Popplewell, Walter, Speaker/Kaikōrero
New Zealand Broadcasting Service (estab. 1946, closed 1962), Broadcaster

An introduction by announcer Gordon Hutter is followed by the first part of a speech by Walter Popplewell, manager of the English Rugby League team, in reply to a speech of welcome. The team is being entertained by Princess Te Puea Herangi (likely at Turangawaewae Marae). The speech is translated into Maori by an unidentified man.

Mr Popplewell says that on their last visit ten years ago they played against a Maori team, which they remember well as a great game. He mentions Steve Watene, who was captain of the 1936 team and who he is pleased to see here again today.

The recording ends mid-sentence.
