Part 1 of 4
New Zealand Broadcasting Unit commentator Doug Laurenson [Military Service no. 34957] Introduces the programme by describing the work carried out by an army Field Park Company. They handle any type of mechanical work, from repairing engines to investigating the construction and operation of enemy bombs.
An account by Corporal H. E. Hill [military service number 2231] of his experiences as a member of a New Zealand Field Park Company and their entry to Derna in Libya, is read by Doug Laurenson.
This item is part of a collection of recordings made by the Mobile Broadcasting Units, which travelled overseas with New Zealand forces between 1940-1945. They recorded New Zealanders' experiences of war and messages to their families and friends, which were sent back home to be played on a weekly radio programme.
