Real Life with John Cowan is a weekly nationwide chat show, featuring a different high-profile guest every week. John talks with them about their life, their upbringing, their passions and their view of the world. And when appropriate, John and his guest chat about faith, spirituality and "God-stuff". Tonights guests are Buck Shelford and Dr Grant Schofield.

Wayne ‘Buck’ Shelford was born in 1957 in Rotorua and started out playing rugby league as a teenager.

Buck began playing representative rugby in 1978. In 1986 he made his debut as an All Black against France. After holding the All Blacks' captaincy from 1987 until 1990, he moved to England to play and coach at the Northampton Rugby Club.

In 2005 Buck was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. Overcoming the cancer with treatment, he became a huge advocate for men's health, which led to the writing of his book Buck Up: The Real Bloke's Guide to Getting Healthy and Living Longer.

Dr Grant Schofield is a sports scientist and Professor of Public Health at AUT University. His research focuses on urban design and the public promotion of physical activity in hopes of reducing the risks of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
