Corporal T.G. Bain, continues to talk about his experiences from leaving Egypt through to evacuation from Greece to Crete by the Navy. At the turn off to the beach he realised that the second lorry was no longer following them so Corporal Bain sent the lorry on to the beach rendezvous and he searched the whole of Athens for the missing vehicle. At midnight he met a small convoy, the rear guard of the famous Māori Battalion, whom he joined and they headed for the beach where the lost vehicle was at last found. Thanks to the Navy they arrived safely in Crete.
