The 4th Empire Games, held in Auckland in 1950, concluded with the closing ceremony during which the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr Sidney Holland congratulated the athletes and paid a special tribute to Lord Arthur Porritt, the Chairman of the Games.

Lord Porritt closed the games, the flag of the Empire Games Federation was lowered and handed to the Mayor of Auckland until the next Empire Games, to be held in Vancouver BC in 1954.
