Parts 3 and 4 of a four-part documentary series by Peter Sellers looking at the history of rugby tests between South Africa and New Zealand.

Part 3: The story of the rugby matches in the Middle East in 1940 and 1942 and the tours of 1949, 1956 and 1960, presented by Peter Sellers.

Eric Tindill recalls who played at Newlands in Capetown in 1940. Archival recording of commentary from December 1942 by Joe King at Maadi, Egypt, between New Zealand and South Africa. Peter Sellers names the members of the New Zealand Services team.

The tour of 1949: includes archival audio of winger Eric Boggs describing his feelings before the first test; commentary on Kearney's pot by Winston McCarthy; commentary leading up to and including Geffin's fifth goal; commentary from the second test leading up to and including Brewis's try and then Boggs describes it; third international commentary up to and including Geffin's second penalty goal by Winston McCarthy; Captain Allen comments on Geffin; commentary on Maurice Goddard's try; Thornton describes the effectiveness of the All Blacks backs and their No. 8; commentary on Johnston's try in the fourth test; Thornton comments on Muller; Allen talks about the referees, Burmeister and Hofmeyr and Goddard sums up the 1949 tour.

Part 4: The Springboks tour of New Zealand in 1956 - includes the memories of Auckland centre Frank McMullen; Winston McCarthy commentating the first test at Carisbrook and Jarden's first try - with comment by Jarden himself. Commentary of the second test at Athletic Park and Retief's try for South Africa, converted by Viviers ("Listen, it's a goal!" from McCarthy). All Black captain Pat Vincent talks about this test.
Commentary of the third test at Lancaster Park in Christchurch and try by Rosenberg for South Africa; Referee Bill Fright comments. Commentary of Jones's try in the fourth test at Eden Park. Pat Vincent looks back on the series - the first South Africa had lost in 60 years and Auckland coach and ex-test half back, Merv Corner also comments.

The All Blacks tour of South Africa in 1960: includes first test commentary with Bob Irvine and Van Zyl scores; Ian Clarke talks about the big defeat. Second test commentary and Colin Meads scores and Clarke converts; the third test and Clarke scores a goal with five minutes to go; McMullen scores with two minutes to go and Clarke levels the score; Don Clarke comments; fourth test commentary and McMullen goes to the goal line but misses; McMullen is disappointed and the final commentary of the final test with Pelser in for South Africa.

At the end of the tape, there are three short interviews made at Timaru Airport while the 1965 South African side was preparing to depart: Springbok team manager Kobus Louw thanks the people of South Canterbury for their hospitality shown towards the team and describes their visit to the province. South African rugby commentator Awi Labescapne [?] humorously describes the scene with various Springbok team memberss signing autographs and boarding the aircraft. Brickie Mulcahy, the South Canterbury selection panel convenor comments on their game against the Springboks.
