This news item features a recording from the press conference given by Morrie Davis after the announcement of his retirement as Air New Zealand's Chief Executive, in the wake of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Mount Erebus disaster.

He says he has become a focal point for attacks on the company and he feels it is appropriate that he retires to restore the well-being of the company in the eyes of the public.

He hopes his move will take pressure off the airline, calling the Commission's report a 'dastardly accusation' and says he intends to work to clear his name.
