Insight '81 - Hoani Waititi Marae, a documentary looking at the history and development of this marae in West Auckland.

Various people are interviewed and discuss how the marae is a centre for pakeha to learn about the Māori way of life. The marae is staffed by Māori with a strong inter-tribal sense of community who help with celebrations, accommodation and teaching, all from a Māori basis.

The inter-tribal team contributes to and supports a wide variety of guests and uses for the marae, including Māori education. People are interviewed about the distinctive character of this marae and the behaviour of the people here.

The marae is kept so busy that it becomes difficult to juggle so many schedules. Among the services offered are schools taught by Aroha Sharples, cultural groups and Māori language classes.

The probation department also sends periodic detention workers to the Marae. There is a lot of cooperation by various cultural groups which have an effect on young people who automatically are welcomed as Māori.
