A special seven-part Checkpoint series called "The Beehive Brigade", in which British M.P. Austin Mitchell explores the workings of the New Zealand government. Includes interviews with many prominent politicians, trade unions etc.

Austin Mitchell explains he has found most people are ignorant of the machinery of government, which he aims to remedy with this series.

The first episode explains the workings of the Prime Minister's office.
The second looks at the Cabinet.
The third is about Ministers of the Crown and their departments.
The fourth episode looks at Parliament.
The fifth episode examines the part Caucus plays.
The sixth episode asks about how lobbyists and pressure groups work.
The final programme features an interview with Prime Minister Robert Muldoon.
