World at 5, is normally hosted by veteran broadcaster Paul Henry presenting a mix of current affairs, news as it happens, audience feedback and his own unique brand of entertaining talk. Not shy of controversy, Paul Henry interviews the newsmakers of the day.

Today on World at 5:
Geoff Bryan presents the news headlines at the top of the hour. Those stories include:
Chrisco pleads guilty to 10 charges under the Fair Trading Act.
More than 2,500 people protest outside Christchurch City Council chambers.
Finance Minister gives Māori opportunity to voice concerns over SOE asset sales.
Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Christchurch earthquake hears gruelling evidence.
Dick Smith founder vows to change his name if sale of company goes through.

Today’s show is presented by Duncan Garner who is sitting in for Paul Henry. Guests today include:
Australian and founder of Dick Smith stores talks about why he is upset at the potential sale of the Dick Smith chain into foreign hands by parent company, Woolworths. Dick also cautions New Zealanders on foreign investment in this country, and how foreigners cannot buy land in China.

Proposed appointment of former ACT Party President, Catherine Isaac found in the “secret” tapes to lead a trial of charter schools has been described as disturbing. Catherine is the wife of the late Roger Kerr (former head of the Business Round Table). John Banks talks with Duncan about his support of her nomination, political appointments and cronyism. Duncan questions John Banks over Catherine’s skills to lead this initiative when she only has a background in PR.

Geoff Bryan returns at 17:30 with the latest news and sport headlines.

Andrew Patterson, Business Editor Radio Live analyses the latest business developments.

Sandra Westbrook (UK Correspondent): The former head of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Fred “The Shred” Goodwin has been stripped of his knighthood due to his reckless decisions in the organisation in 2006 (for which he was knighted for duties to banks); he also purchased a rival bank during the financial crisis and caused the Royal Bank of Scotland to be bailed out by taxpayers to the tune of £45 million. Prince Harry has an interview with the BBC, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen reign and talks about how difficult it would be for his grandmother to cope with her duties without the Prince Phillip. Pippa Middleton has instigated a bidding war between Barbara Walters and Oprah Winfrey in regard to Pippa’s new book about to be released, “How to throw the perfect party”, and US audiences are clamouring for her. London Olympics 2012 is just around the corner, concerns at this time are focussed on the traffic and public transport – as an overhanging fear of the public transport system folding under the pressure of extra population that will be in London as spectators.

Duncan Garner reads out some listener feedback that he has received during the hosting of this show.
