Māori wars. Hongi Hika, Ngapuhi rangatira, travels to England in 1819 and meets King George V. George V bestowed gifts upon him, including a suit of armour. He sold the other gifts and bought muskets, which he returned with to New Zealand. Then commenced the Musket Wars, during which he waged war against neighbouring tribes, with devastating effects. He was eventually injured when he neglected to wear his armour and was shot in the lung, and died shortly afterwards.

The story of Te Rauparaha, who persuaded a sea captain to take him and his men to the South Island to wreak revenge on Ngai Tahu. They were transported to Onawe Pa at Akaroa, where they took the chief hostage and massacred everybody else at the pa. Captain Stewart was arrested and tried, but not charged for aiding the massacre. Later, Te Rauparaha laid siege to Kaiapoi Pa, which he burned to the ground.
