Courtney Hall presents a round-up of rural news from the Auckland region.

He reports on the first wool sale of the 1952-1953 season. He describes the process of the wool sale - from the shearing the sheep, bailing, broker, buyers, valuers and then sales.

Hall then introduces Rex Sayers, who talks about a large barbecue he attended at Ramarama. He notes that 'barbecues held in the outdoors' are becoming more popular in New Zealand, as they are in South Africa. He describes the event, held on a farm and the preparation of the fire-pit. About 70 car loads of people attended the event, which took a week's preparation. He describes the location, atmosphere, open-fire cooking, and live entertainment.
