The Auckland Hospital Board has closed the Māori health Unit at Carrington Hospital, giving one reason for the closure - that the unit was being used by a small group of Māori radicals as a political platform.

Reporter Anna Thomas backgrounds the problems that have resulted in the closure of the Whare Paia unit. Chairman of the Hospital Board, Sir Frank Rutter, talks about the Board's awareness of the problems. Head of the Unit, Titewhai Harawira, asks for a genuine reason for the closure. Hiwi Tauroa infers that the unit's activities were said to representative of Māori thinking and too many Māori people were disagreeing with what was being said.
