This recording is announced as New Zealand's first parliamentary broadcast. It contains a narration of the proceedings, as well as the important speeches from the House of Representatives at the swearing in of the New Zealand government on the 25 Mar 1936.

Broadcaster Charles Wheeler introduces the first broadcast of Parliament, made at the inaugural sitting of the Labour Government on 25 Mar 1936.
Four new members are sworn in and the Prime Minister, Michael Joseph Savage is sworn in.

William Jordan proposes William Barnard for speaker and Barnard replies. The Prime Minister congratulates Barnard which is then followed by congratulations from George Forbes, Joseph Coates and Robert Wright to which Barnard replies with his thanks.
