Tk 3 of 5 from T 906, recorded in 1968 in London. Kiri Te Kanawa is interviewed by Wilfred Thomas about her singing career. He asks where she is from and her singing experience in New Zealand. She recalls meeting James Robertson in 1963 when he judged the Mobil Song Quest and was asked by him to go to the London Opera Centre. Robertson had said that anyone who was taught by Sr. Mary Leo was good enough for him. She had never been to an opera 'school' before and is really enjoying the acting as well as her singing. Thomas sums up the interview by saying in 1970 Kiri was admitted to the Royal Opera Company and had a major role in her third season as the Countess in the Marriage of Figaro. The Press and audiences raved about her. Her next role was in Carmen and with more successes to follow. NB: This recording ends in mid-sentence.
