VACCINATION:The Government says its 200 million dollar Meningococcal B immunisation campaign has "kneecapped the epidemic", and the vaccination is no longer needed. It's estimated that 1-point-1 million young New Zealanders have been immunised during the four year campaign. 98 people have died from the Meningococcal B strain of the disease between 1998 and 2007. TRIAL-NICHOLAS: The Crown Prosecutor has told the jury on the first day of a murder trial in Napier, that 71 year old farmer Jack Nicholas was hiding behind a gate post near the family home when he was shot dead. A 51 year old construction worker Murray Foreman from Haumoana is charged with killing Mr Nicholas on his remote farm west of Napier, in August 2004. TRIAL EXTRADITION: A man extradited from Australia to face trial on historical sex charges has pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting two young girls. 83-year-old Charles Kenneth Morgan was due to face trial today on six charges but after lengthy discussions between his lawyers and the Crown he changed his plea. KAKAPO: Seven Kakapo chicks born just over a fortnight ago are being moved to a hand- rearing facility in Nelson to increase their chances of survival. The chicks were born on Whenua Hou or Codfish Island, near Stewart Island, and bring the total population of the endangered parrot to just 92. Emma Neil from the National Kakapo Team says it's been a bad season for rimu fruit, which the mothers feed exclusively to their young. PREREC
