BURNSIDE CLOSURE: One of the country's largest meat companies, PPCS, is closing its Burnside venison plant in Dunedin - leaving 138 people out of work. Last week it announced the axing of 450 jobs with the closure of its Oringi sheep meat plant south of Dannevirke.

TAX CUTS: The National Party leader John Key is signalling his party will offer large tax cuts but he says it still has not determined the detail of its policy, although National's 2005 policy could be used as a guide. INQUEST MULIAGA: The husband of the woman who died after the power supply to her oxygen machine was cut off, has given emotional evidence at her inquest in Auckland. Preschool teacher Folole Muliaga died last May after a bill went unpaid. Our reporter, Gill Bonnett, was at the inquest and joins us now. LIVE

COURT CRUTCHLEY: A man accused of ending the life of his terminally ill mother has gone on trial in the High Court in Hamilton. 49 year old Ian Crutchley is charged with the attempted murder of his 77 year old mother, Elsie Crutchley in Taumarunui in February last year. FINANCE FAILED: Angry investors in the failed finance company OPI Pacific have reluctantly agreed to give the firm three years to try to recover around 450 millions of dollars which they are owed. COURT KAHUI: The defence's key medical witness has today disputed when the Crown says the baby Kahui twins were fatally injured. Dr Terrance Donald is the last defence witness in the trial of Chris Kahui who is accused of murdering his twin baby boys in June 2006. Joy Reid has been at the High Court in Auckland today. LIVE
ABDUCTION: The police investigating the abduction of an Auckland pizza delivery worker say the seriousness of the offence is completely out of proportion to the small returns from the crime. The 60-year old man was kidnapped yesterday afternoon after calling at an address in Howick. The three offenders dumped the man and his car in the suburb of Clevedon.
