03.26 - 06.42: Unidentified commentator in te reo Māori: [probably Charles Bennett] He kōrero ana e pa ana ki nga mate ke atu o te wa, ara ko Te Hoeroa Marumaru raua ko Titokorau Ratepe, o Parewanui, Wanganui i mate i te ra 18 o Oketopa; Mamaeroa Pitiroi, o Taupo, Ngāti Tuwharetoa, i mate i te ra 18 o Oketopa; Pare Anaru, te pouaru o Tiweka Anaru, o Ohinemutu, Rotorua, i mate i te ra 19 o Oketopa. The same commentator then continues in English, introducing the broadcast from Turangawaewae Marae. He describes the week of mourning which has preceeded today's ceremony and the scene on the marae, with the casket lying in state on the porch of Mahinaarangi.
