Mangatū was one of the groups which represented Te Tairāwhiti at the 1977 (4th) NZ Polynesian Festival held at Rugby Park in Gisborne. The Festival was held in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen, Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh.
