This is an extended programme by Professor Wharehuia Milroy during which he speaks with Maihi Nikora about the waiata, "Taku rakau e". He begins by giving the whakapapa of the waiata's composer, Mihikitekapua, who lived at Matuaahu. She goes down to Waikaremoana. She was going blind and her rakau was her guide.
She returns to the pa site but it is deserted. "He aha te mate o tona iwi?"
Wharehuia Milroy sings the waiata then continues the explanations of some of the lyrics:
Kahore aku mihi, aku tangi kia koutou, mau puku ko te iwi e - my people are bereft.
Ka mahue tonu ko te whenua e takato nei - The land is left desolate. This is a waiata aroha.
"Taku rakau e" was composed by Mihikitekapua during the 1820s. Professor Milroy then continues in English.
