An interview with Bill Barton of Auckland, kaumātua of Ngāti Maniapoto, who returned to the whare Miringa Te Kakara after fifty years. His previous visit had been in 1928, during a visit by the King Te Rata Mahuta. This whare stands between Benneydale and the Pureora forest in the King Country. It was built for Te Kooti; in the shape of a cross it is made of tōtara thatch, with bark walls and roof, dovetailed with no nails.
