Anthony Royal, Craig Soper and Graeme Everton are three Māori who have
succeeded on the information technology industry.
Technology industries are tipped to play a key part in New Zealand's economic
future, and Māori are looking for opportunities to increase their involment.
According to the 1996 figures, about a fifth of the labour force work in science and technology. and about 4 percent of the work force are employed in the IT industry.
31 year old Craig Soper is affiliated to the South Island Rakiura Iwi and is a joint
Managing Director of software consultancy, Cimpudigm International.
Graeme Everton teaches at the Māori tertiary Institutuin, Te Wananga o Raukawa.
The 36 year old from Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Tuwharetoa trained as a radio
technician but has worked most recently in information technology, after getting a job
in a Māori IT consultancy.
Anthony Royal also of Ngāti Raukawa speaks about the types of skills required in this
particular industry.
