Murupaenga, Herewini, 1937- (b.1937), Presenter
Rangihau, John Te Rangi-Aniwaniwa, 1919-1987, Speaker/Kaikōrero

Selwyn Muru presents an episode of Te Puna Wai Kōrero. He begins by discussing the controversy over the government's announcement that it plans to build housing at Bastion Point.

He then presents recordings made in December 1976, when the Tuhoe tribe invited Māori artists and writers to their marae Te Tira Hou in Panmure to discuss art, literature and Māoritanga.

One of the highlights of the weekend was kōrero by John Rangihau, a
recognised philosopher in Māori and pakehatanga.

Kaikōrero: John Rangihau talks in te reo Māori and English about the karanga.
- Three kai karanga: 1. asking the people to come onto the marae (making
them welcome)

- 2. an acknowledgement and being cognisant of the people who have departed.

- 3. the last one is to establish whanaungatanga between the host people
and the tribe.

John speaks about "te apakura" a semi chant over the deceased person.
