- Chatham Islands -

Purewa Biddle paid a visit to the Chatham Islands when members of the
Ringatu faith made a pilgrimage to the place where Te Kooti Rikirangi
who founded the movement, got his inspiration.

Kaikōrero: Albert Tuuta, chairman of the Chatham Islands Māori Committee, speaks with Purewa about the reaction of the local people to the Ringatu visit and about Te Kooti's jail, which has recently been demolished to make way for a commercial smoke-house. He says he believes Te Kooti was never locked up on the island, as he was recognised as a man of God, who preached while he was there.

Kaikōrero: Bunty Preece, chairman of the local County Council talks about what the visit meant to local people. He says being visited by people of mana has helped awaken the island. He talks about the island economy and its future.

Waiata: E ngā iwi e pohiri nei / Waihirere.
