This programme is broadcast from the opening of Hoani Waititi Marae in Glen Eden, Auckland.

The opening of "Nga Tumanako" wharenui has been the accumulation of seventeen years of hard work by people like Dr Peter Sharples, Don Rameka, Mavis Tuoro, Aroha Sharples, Tuini Hararaia, Jerry Graham and many others, both Māori and Pakeha.

The marae was named after a well-known Māori educationalist, the late John Waititi of Te Whanau-a-Apanui.

[Archival recording of the late Hoani Waititi talking about the survival of the Māori language.]

Hēnare te Ua interviews Dr Peter Sharples about the new marae.

Kaikōrero: Don Rameka. He tells Hēnare te Ua about his involvement in the marae project.
