the erosion of the whanau concept which is a cornerstone of Māori society.

- Kaikōrero: Iritana Tawhiwhirangi

- Kaikōrero: Tamati Reedy/Ngāti Porou Assistant secretary to the Department of
Māori Affairs speaks with Haare Williams at Hoani Waititi Marae about issues that
had been discussed such as education, unemployment, economic situation of the
Māori people, the importance of culture to our people, the language, and the
importance to keep reminding ourselves about these issues, so we do not forget
they are there and something constructive will come out of those issues, like
perhaps policy making.

The rise and fall of Māori magazines is a lengthy story in itself, Te Ao Hou,
Marae magazine, Te Kaea, Te Māori; some blossomed, some fell by the wayside.
Out of all these a new magazine called "Tu Tangata" has blossomed.
It was launched at Parliament's Māori Room during the week of the 10th August 1981.
Speaking at the launching was the Leader of the House, the Honourable David Thomson.
