William Williams arrived in New Zealand as a servant of the Church Missionary
of the "Society" in 1826. He weas a man of God no mai ra noa. He devoted
his time to the Māori people, and Chrsitianity. He was sent to Paihia, where he
study the Māori Language, and translate the Bible into Māori.
William Williams also study medicine
After operating from Waimate in the North he then moved onto the Gisborne
East Coast area, where he began building churches and schools, as well as
teaching, He traveled widely.

A re-enactment of the William's family gathered at Onepoto Sandy Bay to commerate
this ocassion.
