This unidentfied speaker [Rangi Logan?] talks of the decision to make up the Māori Battalion 4th Field Regiment from D Company based at Hopuhopu Camp, Ngaruawahia. George Dittmer was the first CO and selected men from various camps to make the Battalion. The speaker speaks of Anania Amohau of Te Arawa who composed the Māori Battalion song
November 1939 that year and time being the birth of the Māori Battalion roopu and the Māori Battalion song. The roopu were then sent to Trentham for training, including medicals and officer training as well. The speaker speaks wellof their training, the drilling of the boys, chaging of the guards, to the day they left on board the Aquatania.
