This is a weekly two-hour current affairs program from a Māori perspective every Monday 10am to Midday.
Paakiwaha is hosted by Willie Jackson (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou) and broadcast nationwide by Radio Waatea with funding from New Zealand On Air.
Greetings and programme rundown.

Chris Trotter: Left Wing Political Commentator talks with Willie about well-known Māori, Sir Wira Gardiner, losing out as Executive of the National Party possibly because of his wife's political affiliations.

Sir Paul Reeves: Former New Zealand Governor General, Former Archbishop and Primate of New Zealand and Chancellor of Auckland University, talks with Willie about how Iwi delivered the first statement of forgiveness to the Crown at Parliament regarding the Settlement of the Port Nicholson Block Claim.
Sir Paul rated this Forgiveness Statement as one of the most significant, moving and important occasions that he has ever taken part in.

Music: Judge Joe Williams - "Maranga ake ai".

Hone Harawira: Māori Party MP for Tai Tokerau. Willie talks with Hone about the Hui that he attends where he talks about a Constitutional Change that has every piece of legislation in the country, give due recognition to the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Waitangi. Willie also asks for Hone's view on the Takamore - Tupapaku case where the body was snatched and taken back to Tuhoe against the wishes of the Wife and Daughter. Hone says he does not consider that as Body-snatching at all.

Music: Ruia Aperahama

Raylene De Ju: This week is National Breast Feeding week and Willie talks with Raylene who is an advocate for Breast Feeding; she says that it's losing favour among Māori mothers.

Spencer Lily: Spencer is the Kaihotu of Library Services at Massey University and he talks about the inaugural "Nga Kupu Ora" Book Awards that were held last week at Massey University. Willie asks why Spencer has started an alternative Book Award for Māori and why only one Māori Book got in the finals of the Montana Book Awards.

Willie Jackson: Willie with the nominations for the Māori Book of the Decade which was won by Dr. Ngahuia Te Awekotuku with his book "Mau moko - the world of Māori Tattoo".

Pou Temara: Last week the widow of James Takamore, Denise Clark won a landmark case in the high court allowing her to take her partners body from its current resting place at the Whanau Urupa at Kutarere near Opotiki. The Court Decision though did not order the exhumation of the Tupapaku, Body, but rather directed Denise Clark and the Takamore Whanau to try to resolve their differences.
With Willie to talk about this issue is Pou Temara who is the Professor of Te Reo and Tikanga at Waikato University.

Dr. Katerina te Heikoko Mataira & Dale Husband: This is a pre-recorded interview from "Te Hunga Whaitake", the "Newsmakers" programmed aired on Radio Waatea hosted by Dale Husband.

Katerina is an Author, Artist and Academic born in Tokomaru Bay in the 1930s. Started her first Māori Language Class in a State School, Northland College in Kaikohe in 1956. Dale talks with Katarina about her Life teaching Te Reo Māori throughout Aotearoa using a method she developed with Ngoingoi Pewhairangi called "Te Ataarangi" developed during the late 1970's based on a Teaching method developed by Caleb Cattengo for learning a second language that utilised coloured rods. This method was highly effective in direct contrast to the grammar based, academic approaches of language learning.

On Monday 27th July 2009, Katerina Te Heikoko Mataira was the recipient of the 2009 Linguapax Prize presented this year by Professor Miguel Angel Essombe, a representative for the Linguapax Institute based in Barcelona, Spain, established by UNESCO and dedicated to the preservation and promotion of linguistic diversity worldwide.

Duncan Garner: Qantas Media Award winning Political Editor, with a Weekly wrap-up of Politics. Duncan talks about the National Party dumping the selection of Sir Wira Gardiner as their Executive of the National Party. The excuse from the Nats is because Wira's wife, Dame Hekia Parata, is an MP and in the caucus.

Ken Laban: Lower Hutt Mayoral Candidate, Prominent Community Leader and Sports Analyst and Commentator, with a Weekly wrap-up of Sports. Hopeless performance from the All Blacks is the topic with Willie and Ken. They also talk about the disgraceful game of the Warriors and wonder what's going wrong in there.
