0616 NEWS STORY: FIRE SERVICE - ruling from Chief Employment Court Judge Tom Goddard prevents Fire Commission from continuing with current plan to shed 300 firefighters by forcing all 1500 to reapply for their jobs. Judgement also says Commission has not acted as fair and reasonable employer let alone a good or ethical one. 0620 RURAL NEWS AVERAGE WOOL PRICE pushed to 5 year low, with exchange rate blamed as main offender. Price falls below $4.00 a kilo mark. Fine wool prices hit harder, falling by 8% at yesterday's sales. (Kevin Ikin) CHATHAM ISLANDS WOOL to beused in range of millenium carpets and rugs. Wools of NZ has negotiated contracts with 4 overseas carpet manufacturers to produce carpets under special "First Light" brand, which will use wool exclusively from Chatham Islands. Menwhile Dairy Boards issues statement saying media reports it's encouraging farmers to drive tractors to Parliament are incorrect and neither is it true it doesn't intend to meet govt's November deadline for presenting future plans. DEREGULATION - Pipfruit Growers of NZ welcomes what it sees as change of govt approach to issue. Deputy their Phil Allison says growers actively support change which will measurable benefits.
