0611 NEWS STORY OTAGO FLOODING - flood waters continue to rise in Wanaka, Queenstown, and near Alexandra, forcing evacuation of at least 13 homes. 0620 RURAL NEWS OTAGO FLOODING - several farms in Queenstown and Wanaka districts cut off from illegible access overnight. Levels of lakes Wakatipu and Wanaka steadily rising, as illegible various rivers. Routeburn Station farmer Anne Percy says she measured 270 mls or rain since Sunday night, most for some years; Matukituki Station farmer Barry Matthews is also cut off from road access. (Diana Leufkens) RATES - Fed Farmers wants tighter control on local govt to end "abuse" in rating systems applied to farmers, says some District Councils are ignoring legislation requiring transparency on how rate mony used and some rates set without consideration of who will benefit from council activities. (Diana Leufkens) WOOL EXPORTS - CHINA - Wool Board says prospects for unravelling obstacles blocking NZ wool exports to China looking more hopeful. Exports dropped by almost quarter in first half of year because of way Chinese officials allocate import quotas, giving priority to wool to be re-processed for export. Most NZ wool sent to China is processed for domestic use but manufacturers desperate for supplies have been unable to get quotas. China has given assurance quotas will be freed up. (Kevin Ikin)
