Live Wires - St. Patrick's School 4th term. 2015.
Find out more about this item:
Presented by students from St Patrick's School Masterton. The school produces a programme once a term. It is broadcast on Arrow FM on a Saturday at 4pm, and on a Thursday at 10am.
Today's theme is dreaming/sleep. The programme showcases the creative and academic output of students, school events, skill acquisition (research, production management, rehearsal, technical). It also contains performances from the school's kapa haka group.
The following is sourced from the broadcaster's website:
Live Wires fizzes, pops and crackles with youthful talent and enthusiasm. Students present their own variety programmes live from the classroom. Using Arrow's remote transmission system (The Lynchbox) enables school-kids to experience the thrill of presenting live-to-air programming direct from the school environment. Subject matter is as diverse as the imagination allows – stories, plays and interviews jostle with match reports from school sports events, kapa haka and choir performances, science, music, maths, even the visual arts (if it can be talked about, it’s a goer). It’s mostly live, but students also act as roving reporters, collecting pre-recorded material from across the school leading up to the broadcast date. Other classes can listen in while it’s happening (actually about a minute later after buffering) and participants can always catch the repeat on Sunday.
We are primary school students, helped by our teachers and Arrow FM to create regular programmes about school life and the many things we are interested in. At the moment, five schools are involved, and so we get to go live on air once every five weeks. We are gaining presentation and production skills, and showcasing talents we already have. We also look for stories and achievements from other students at the school, acting as their on-air representatives.
