Gregor Nicholas, “determined and aiming to be famous”, discusses his film Broken English, mentions ‘Good Fellas’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as inspiration.

Jonathan questions Gregor about making a film about Croatians, Chinese and Maori when you’re a pakeha New Zealander. Discusses his own experiences with immigrants in NZ as well as the Croatian war at the time of the filming.

Jonathan parallels Broken English with the short film Danny and Raewyn which was made 10 years earlier. Talks about what is personal in his films, and the style that he has adopted for Broken English.

Discusses working closely with [John Toon], Director of Photography and Mike Caine, Production Designer. Mentions Lee Tamahori and Once were Warriors and compares this work with his own film work and styles. Talks about his next film ‘Mississippi Mud’ with Martin Scorcese as executive producer, and the other works that are in development.
