H.M.N.Z.S. ACHILLES: Berthed at Aotea Quay in Wellington, the Achilles is opened to the public before sailing to England to revert to the Royal Navy. The Prime Minister, Peter Fraser, receives the salute as the ship’s crew parade through the streets.

FILM VAN: A mobile cinema unit gives a demonstration outside Parliament. Mr Bob Semple and members of the public observe its operation. The government established the unit to spread information on soil erosion and conservation.

HILL CLIMB: Members of the New Zealand Sports Car Club tackle the Paekakariki Hill. Enthusiastic spectators turn out to watch the event.

R.N.Z.A.F. IN JAPAN: Young servicemen relax at the airbase where a YMCA has been set up. The 14 Fighter Squadron do all they can for recreation while away from home.

INDUSTRY ... BATH MAKING: At a foundry in Petone near Wellington, a local company manufactures fourteen baths a day.

OROUA DOWNS ... YOUNG FARMERS FIELD DAY: North of the Manawatu River in the flat, sandy country, a prosperous dairy district exists at Oroua Downs. Farmers and students attend the Young Farmers Field Day. Pruning of fruit trees, tractor driving and picking good livestock are some of the day’s activities.
