NEW ZEALAND’S LAST GLIMPSES OF HRH: On January 12 1935, HRH Duke of Gloucester lay the foundation stone for the new Post Office in Dunedin.
Thousands gathered to watch the Duke as he walked from his hotel to perform official duties.
HRH checked Navy Guards of Honour, before ascending the dais to lay the foundation stone, not visible to the general public. Once official duties were over, HRH left amidst cheers of the crowds.
CHRISTCHURCH: The same royal welcome awaits HRH as he is escorted onto the dais by the Mayor. Huge crowds sit and listen to speeches, after which HRH informally meets leading citizens of the city.
LYTTLETON: PARAGRAPHS HRH LEAVES NEW ZEALAND: After a long and arduous tour HRH Duke of Gloucester, accompanied by the Captain of the Guard of Honour, prepares to embark at Lyttelton for his homeward voyage.
The Prime Minister, Mr Forbes bids him farewell with a handshake, then HRH boards the Australia. Accompanied by the Governor General, HRH inspects the guards on board and is then farewelled by the Governor. HRH gives a Royal salute as he bids farewell to New Zealand.
