The story of Jack and Bob, who meet through a newspaper advertisement and go gold prospecting in the Southern Lakes region. Bob finds gold unexpectedly when chasing butterflies. The story is interspersed with scenery of the region, including scenes around Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu as seen from the steamer Earnslaw.
