000:15 Regatta... Speedboats
The Evan’s Bay Yacht and Motorboat Regatta. The first event was the Miramar Hydroplane Handicap. Miss Foxton capsized and the race was abandoned. The second event was the Rongotai B Bottom Handicap, won by Miss Vesta. Supersonic won the main race of the day.

At the Petone foreshore, a new boat is christened by the Club President, WJ Galvin. Conditions on the water are perfect for Auckland to win both the Varsity 8s and the Interprovincial 8s events.

004:28 Wellington... Art Gallery Reopened
After eight years of occupation by the airforce, the gallery is now open to the public again. Paintings, valued at more than £40,000, are unpacked from storage, overseen by director Stuart McLennan. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, makes a speech at the official opening.
